so after the patch im going to be running RMP again. Im going to be running with a sub rogue so ill be getting around 26-27 percent crit, i feel like this is way to much crit cause the average mage latly has around 18-20 percent crit. now with the mastery nerf should i reforge more mastery to try to gain some of that lost damage or reforge haste? i heard some rumors that haste will actually be a good thing to have after patch!
Bump.
bump..
We need more crit, not less. Inconsistency is bad.
o man..... the only 2 posts dont even agree with each other! i am now lost beyond being found!
Haste will be a factor imo when patch hits. 1.9 sec frostbolt as your main ability wont cut it.
Lose crit or get interrupted all the time?
Rather shave a few .1 frostbolt and lose 5% crit rather than getting interrupted in those last .3 secs on the cast which can happen vs warriors/dk/feral.
Self bumping is a sad thing to see.
26-27 is still pathetic. Where are my F'ing pyro procs?
crit > haste
even after the patch

Any mages have a link to some good fire mage macros or tips on how they do the fight would be greatly apriceadted.
Fire PvP - some questions
Seeing how combat ratings are taking a huge dive in early tiers of Cata gear proper talent placement for Fire seems to be crucial to it's success in PvP. I know Frost has superior control, survivability and burst, I know all that. I just like setting a piles of Allys in BGs on fire, okay? =)
Burning Soul - this one is still a bit iffy to me. Most of the time we set up time window to cast Fireball via procs and DB. The rest of the time we are tossing quick Scorches on the run. Have you seen a good use for this talent in decent BG PvP? Besides standing still and trying to cast while a hunter and their pet are chewing your face off....
Fire Power - in my PvP build it's pretty much this talent or the 3% crit. In early tiers I am going for 3% crit, but later ones will give me some wiggle room on Crit so I can explore this talent. I did not have beta access so I can not relate to Flame Orb usefulness, but I can imagine we pop it on CD. Could some beta fire mage shed some light on this 3-point talent? Are the 3 points really worth 3% more PvP damage and Flame Orb explosion (I might be wrong but it is 100% avoidable).
Molten Fury - Would it be more beneficial to take up this 12% more damage on 35% or lower over 30% -> 33% Crit gain via Piercing Ice? This is probably the most tricky one for me to figure out.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
12% more damage is a bit of extra power and it's applied to every damage source you have on the target when he below 35% hp, quite useful and if you don't have it every time someone ALMOST dies you can know that if you had the talent he most likely would have died. The 3% crit helps out your sustained damage but fire and pvp in general are more about burst so being able to boost your damage when you need it most is probably more worth it then a small chance to gain decent damage boost.
Where are you planning to put 5 extra points at 85?

So I noticed with Arcane Mages
If I look at the recount Pie chart, it goes like this: I have about 8 sub sections of skills which cause damage, then I look at the Arcane Mage Pie chart (in the recount addon) and it looks like 1 giant red circle (they press 1 button). Please note that this actually will out damage me, even from a slightly undergeared mage.
So my question is, why when I just press lightning bolt (my filler attack) I don't do over 50% more damage than my normal rotation? Infact I think I do something like 30% of the damage I would deal when I press the other 7 buttons. Can someone give me tips on how to press 1 button and still do great?
i like pie
Not supposed to be balanced at 80.
Does your Lighting Bolt utterly decimate your mana pool in SECONDS when spammed?
Arcane mages are able to turn mana into damage at will. It's what they do, it is the defining trait of the spec.
1. Get a spell that does both a s---ton of damage while costing a s---ton of mana, making it nonviable for spamming unless you have end game gear.
2. Have all of your other spells hit like a wet noodle making them essentially functionless except to conserve mana.
Newsflash: Arcane won't be a "one button wonder" at 85. A fully stacked arcane blast costs over 9,000 mana. We probably won't have the gear to support AB spam until T14 or so.
Cheesecake is like the ice lance of desserts
It's a pie with cake in the name.
Two questions/comments:
1) Why are you comparing your filler attack to an Arcane Mage's main nuke?
2) This one's a bit more complicated, you may have to actually think (a little), so be prepared. Recount DPS charts only show the actual abilities that cause damage directly. The other buttons that are requires to play an arcane mage do not show up. Stuff like mana gem, evocation, arcane power, etc. Some classes have to use abilities aside from their damage abilities to actually do damage. Weird I know, but there it is.
1) filler attack == (is directly equal to) main nuke.
2) Some would consider Elemental Mastery as a cooldown (LOL DOESNT SHOW ON RECOUNT) to be stronger than arcane power in its self.
Just be content that your class requires more than pressing one or two buttons.
In any case, in one week, this thread will no longer be relevant.
The answer obviously is that recount is broken.
Thanks for your C++ 101 lesson, we're all better people now.
If filler attacks = main nuke, than Arcane Missiles and Arcane Barrage should hit as hard as Arcane Blast. Oh boy that would be fun :D
I freaking love chocolate pie.
Arcane mages are like kids with trust funds. Yea, you can buy a car and house, but how will you pay the taxes if you blow it all. Or repairs. Or retirement?
Excellent example. I like that! Yeah arcane used tones mana. Sure the mage can use arcane barrage and arcane missiles. But he's trying to go for the most dps. So therefore he has to spam arcane blast. Then he OOM and you guys are moving on to the next boss.
No it's not balanced for 80, but 80 is where we're at; we cannot go past 80, nor can we wear gear intended for level 81+.
So basically, we have to suck it up and should it be the case - not have fun until the expansion is released.
I don't get it. Why are you complaining about your class being more fun to play? Are you just a complainer?
A week ago it wasn't a week until the expansion.
Besides, my 'priorities' are fine. I need to leave this backward little country, but to do that I need to sell my house, so while I'm waiting for a buyer there's not a lot else to do that doesn't involve interacting with real-life stupid people.

Best lvling spec?
Should I go with Fire or Arcane?
And can someone give me a good spec :P Thanks^^
Since the 4.0 patch I have been levelling my mage which was parked on 31 for about 2 years. He is level 73 (almost 74) and I have been experimenting with different specs and have been dual spec since level 40.
I always keep coming back to arcane - especially after I got the talents in slow. My guy is frost off-spec and I sometimes swap to frost but not for long. I am questing Howling Fjord right now and killed Megalith 5 times and he didn't even get close to hitting me.
All specs are viable and it usually comes down to your playstyle. You won't have any problems whichever spec you try until you have to kill mobs that are immune so dual spec at 40 is recommended.
Okay thanks^^ for the info.^^

Glyphs for changed Water Elemental Model/Skin
I like how Blizzard added abilities for mages to use glyphs to change the polymorphed animal. What about a similar glyph system for water elementals? Now I realize that changing it from a water type being would defeat the purpose but what about an Ice Elemental? Or perhaps a simple color change to a darker blue just to change things up. Just a simple thought. Feel free to say "thats a terrible idea" or "what if we made it so this ____ happened" Just a random thought I had and wondered if you all seemed like it is a good one.
Oh man, I'd give anything to have my water elemental use one of the newer elemental models.

Which reps etc to farm at 85?
When you hit 85 what are going to be the reps you need asap or is there a resource for mages that outline this somewhere.
Fire single-target DPS
I hear a lot of good things about fire on this forum. And to be honest, on heroics trash it's great. But for single targets (i.e. nearly every heroic boss), it feels significantly worse than both frost and arcane. It could be I'm just not performing adequately, but for all the fire lovers out there, how are you finding fire for single targets?
Perfectly fine.
Are you weaving scorch at a rate of about 2 fireballs per 5 scorches?
Are you using flame orb on cooldown?
Are you saving enough mana for fireball spam when the boss hits 35%
Are you optimizing your combustion by waiting to use it for at least ignite and living bomb if not pyroblast
Extremely good.
Hard cast pyro, lb, throw a couple fireballs in to get an ignite and wait for trinket procs. Put flame orb/combustion up spam more fireballs and watch the numbers fly.
Naturally being a superior troll race I pop berserking before my combustion to get 17/18 ticks for drive the tank crazy with threat damage. ^_^
Thanks for the tips. I guess my dps is going to be even higher, because I had completely forgotten about flame orb...getting a gob to 85 has made my brain mush.

Gear Shift? (Get it)
At what point in questing did you start breaking tier and replacing other pieces of wrath gear? Questing in Hyjal and Vashj'ir has given me a couple of upgrades but most is "gain a little bit of stamina and int, gain a lot of mastery and hit, and lose a bunch of crit or haste"
In what zone did you start getting true upgrades?
Upgraded everything I had in Deepholm.
I was wearing 277~ gear.
You can't get into some instances without the ilvl and you will replace it anyways so might as well start getting rid of it asap.
i saw DKs drop their shadowmourne by deepholm. so that's a good gauge lol

Impact bug (PvE, dots dont spread?)
has anyone else noticed that when you living bomb, blast wave (to get an impact proc), then fireblast, the living bomb will not only not spread sometimes, but also randomly disappears off your main target?
Really annoying.
Living bomb can only be on 3 targets at a time, if you try to spread it to more then 3 it will probably not stay on your main target.

PVP Gems
Hello mages. I was wondering what gems i should be using for PVP as frost. Any help would be nice, thank you.
I've generally went with as much Crit and Int as I could get. I do 2's with an Elemental Shaman, so with the 5% crit buff I'm pretty close to the 33.3% crit cap.
It depends on your playstyle.
Some mages choose to stack haste to get out more spells and polymorph quicker.
It depends a lot on your play style.
Would stacking haste get me high enough to notice the difference?

Stats needed for pvp frost mage
What are the stats and %'s needed to be decent at pvping for a frost mage?
A few MORE questions [:
I was wondering, what's the fastest way for me to level?
And what's a good way to get good equipment, and some silver?
Thanks in advance.
Also, do you think level 20 would be a possible goal for me to reach tonight?
Just quest your ass off and you can get 20 dont waste your time looking for gear.
I can try, but quests are so boring and go soo slow -_-
Oh well :p
Thanks

which spec to level right now?
I just started this character and got it to level 10 should I be going fire or frost?
Try each, figure out which you prefer. That's what I think you should do.
However, frost mages, with their water elementals should still have an easier time than other mages, especially seeing how they get slows sooner than the other two specs.
Though arcane does get an instant cast, which is nice while kiting.
Once you hit 20 (which will be in an hour if you push hard) you'll have Arcane Blast, which makes Arcane superior...no need to slow the mobs with a Frostbolt because they die before they reach you. Plus you get a 25% arcane bonus, which boosts your 100% mana free Arcane Missiles. Ultimately you should try them all once you reach the 30+ mark, so you have some talent points to play with. But if you want the fastest, most dominant leveling spec, it's Arcane.

Glyphs for each spec?
I am reading different things on different posts, and on EJ so I'm just going to ask because with the influx of new mage players the Inscriptionists are making off like... Well, mages selling portals at the moment. XD
I want to make sure I am buying the right glyphs for Arcane levelling.
Level 25: Prime, Major, Minor
Level 50: Prime, Major, Minor
Level 75: Prime, Major, Minor
Thanks!
This doesn't answer your question but I just thought I would mention that you should consider Frost Spec for leveling. Personally, I found it to be a lot more efficient and still just as fun for PvE. While you may have less DPS than arcane or fire, your CC will be significantly better. You will be able to pull serveral mobs and AOE them til they're all dead. Specially helpful on quests where you have to slain X number of mobs or collect X number of drops from a certain type of NPC that tends to spawn in close proximity to each other. Good luck!
My reason for levelling Arcane is because I love the ide aof it and I also exclusively play with my fiance, so I don't really need the added survivability. :3
I almost never die solo questing/leveling as arcane. I make no claim at being any kind of pro. It's very doable, quite fast, and a lot of fun.
EDIT: Addressing original question.
I used Arcane Blast, Evocation, and Feather Fall for my first 3. Worked nicely. But I haven't run simulators and such. Just worked.

worried about pvp in regard to mana
I'm a little nervous about pvp and I understand that it is a little preemptive but I would sincerely appreciate community thought on the matter.
Mana mana mana. Spell steal for example costs 5k. You can spam this 10 times total and you're done. Other spells cost too much as well, I get burned out quickly and I'm not hitting any harder than a melee class. Death knights for example seem a lot better to play. They do not require mana, do overall the same damage and so far have more health.
Honestly, its fine the way mages play if they are going to hit a lot harder than melee and burn out fast. But my experience so far is they are hitting about the same as melee and non mana based classes.
Just sayin :P

Bug?
I don't know if I am the only person experiencing this but when I hit an enemy (PvE) with the Frostbolt and then with a Pyroblast they sprint at me as if they have a speed hack or something lol
Frostbolt damage
my frost bolt damage is way too low for pvp and im just wondering if any other frost mages are experiencing this idk if i just need the set for pvp and that will make me better or whats happening.....
Mage rotation question
Hey guys,
I don't know if my rotation is correct? My spec is frost and I'm not sure what the frost rotation should be? I'm pretty new to mages so can someone give me a heads up?
I'm starting frost again too. Please could some wise wizard help us! :)
use this macro when you hit lvl 85 and you'll always use the right spell in both pve and especially pvp.
/castrandom Frost Nova;Cone of Cold;Frostbolt;Summon Water Elemental;Ice Lance;Slow Fall;Blizzard;Invisibility;Deep Freeze;Cold Snap;Blink;Polymorph;Spellsteal;Mana Shield;Icy Veins;Frostfire Bolt;Ice Barrier;Ice Block;Mirror Image;Mage Ward;Counterspell;Time Warp;Ring of Frost
you will be the best mage ever!
This is a good guide.
http://elitistjerks.com/f75/t110339-frost_mage_discussion_cataclysm/
Thank you very much hipnotic.
1.Frostfire Orb, if cooldown is up.
2.Deep Freeze, if cooldown is up and Fingers of Frost is active.
3.Frostfire Bolt, if Brain Freeze is active and Fingers of Frost is active.
4.Ice Lance if Finger of Frost is active.
5.Freeze, if cooldown is up, Deep Freeze cooldown is up, and Finger of Frost is not active.
6.Frostbolt.
This will help me when raiding in this spec, is it similar for pvp? Just follow the same rules concering cooldowns and procs?
Saleph, I tried this and it was amazing thank you. Get level 85.

Living bomb question
Is it better to keep living bomb up consistently or let it explode and then restart another living bomb? Which one does more damage? Thanks for the help!
let it explode and reapply it right after
Exactly what the rogue said, Don't clip.

Rotation for frost/fire
Started playing my mage again and would like some professional advice on going frost or fire at my level for leveling in pve and instance runs. Also best rotation for that spec.

Fire spec help? Plox
So i was wondering i realize that arcane at the moment is REDICULOUSLY over populated due to the very broken Arcane Blast. So i decided i wanted to go from arcane to fire specs to shake things up. So i was wondering, what is the best fire spec in the current patch out? and which stats are more important to fire than others?
Spirit? Crit? Haste? Spellpower? if someone could give me some help and some suggestions, i would grealtly apprieciate it.

crit, spellpower, haste, and spirit are the order of stats I go for. Of course, you want to be hit capped, but a 35-40% crit is awesome for your hot streak to proc and cast pyroblast. plus, a fireball at or under 2 seconds is wanted as well.
Wut.
Fire spec helps regen mana on your crits, so I don't make spirit a top stat. I mean yeah, it's important, but a gem or two and enchantment is enough to get the job done.
No. There's no reason to use Spirit anymore. Ever.

Arcane vs Fire vs Frost for PvE?
Hey guys im wondering which I should do 25m raids with. Which will turn out better over a whole fight. Im wondering if I do get to a significant mana level should I go arcane? What do you guys think title says it all.
They're all good for PvE, Fire will usually pull out ahead on any fight where it can take advantage of it's AoE capabilities but other then that Frost is capable of matching it's single target DPS and bring greater burst damage with survivability. Both of them have great mobility so movement fights won't hinder either spec to much (Fire's mobility is better then Frost's however).
Arcane usually falls behind due to it's lack of AoE and Mobility which give Fire and Frost the advantage on majority of boss fights.

Mage Professions
What professions would you say are the best for a mage? I've got tailoring, and I plan to keep that. But my other prof is mining. It was good for making gold at the beginning, but I have no need for it anymore.
I'm looking at:
What do you think is the best? I already have a toon leveled to the 200s in JC, but I have no enchanters. What would be the best bonus? What is better to make some gold?
Jewelcrafting is pretty good, but the combo considered best for every PvE mage was, I believe is and will be Tailoring/Enchanting.
That's good, at least I wouldn't have wasted time on JC on the other toon, I can DE my tailoring things, and the JCs jewelry. Too bad I wasted all that time getting mining to 375 though.

Frost Mage PvP Stats I Should Stack?
Hello :)
I'm going to start doing arenas and I was wondering if someone could tell me which stats I should stack as a frost mage.
Thanks in advance :D
crit and mastery
Is any of them more important than the other one or should I just try to even them out?
I go crit and resilience.
Crit for the Shatter talent, and resilience so i can stay alive. I wanted a lot of each of those stats so i stuck to stacking 2 stats instead of 3.
i'm full bloodthirsty, gemmed, chanted, i have 19% crit, almost 20%, ~2900 resilience. I'm pleased because that 19% crit gives me ~~ 60% critical hit chance on frozen targets.
A frost mage is about using your controlling spells to build or construct a scenario for your frost bolt ice lance shatter combo. thats your primary objective, as well as CC in arenas. but ya crit res. IMO.
So do you suggest reforging most of my other stats to crit?
i did. I reforged every piece of gear i could to crit. Don't neglect Hit though you should have like 5% hit rating. and i have 200 spell pene, probably to much but i got it by accident, you'll want that too. 150-200 spell penetration (not hard to get at all)
Alright I'll probably do that. Thanks for your help and the quick reply :)
they're nerfing the hell our of our mastery next patch too so i don't know how viable it'll be. it will only do a base 5% extra damage against frozen targets, down from its current 20% base damage increase against frozen targets.
Basically you start out with 8 mastery points, thats 20%. Noooooow you'll start with 2 points, thats 5%. thats our mage nerf, a 15% damage reduction against frozen targets.
oh ya no problem, my video card broke so i am trying to get my WoW fix any way i can till the new one comes lolololol.
Oh alright I didn't know about that. That changes things. I should probably learn things like that lol. And dang that sucks sorry to hear that haha. Something like that happened to me before and I was the same way. Hope your video card comes in asap!
So once I get my Crit up to about that 20% point move on to stacking mastery?

[Suggestion] Slow & Arcane Blast
I was once told that since there aren't any more suggestion forums, that you should post in the forum your suggest most relates to, that's why i'm posting here. If i'm not supposed to, then i'm sorry, but the General Discussion is just too gloomy with all the Blizz-hate and /perma-camp'ers
So my suggestion isn't really a suggestion, just a request from Blizzard. I started questing again on this mage (mainly just so i could get to outlands) as arcane, i love arcane, it's my favorite spec, but when i was using arcane blast, i would notice that the mob would get some good distance towards me before the slow effect would kick in from my Nether Vortex talent.
TL:DR My request is this: With all the changes blizz is doing to arcane mages, can you make it so that the slow application is just a tad bit quicker on the draw when i first use arcane blast against a mob?
This is a bit of a bug, actually. Nether vortex applied slow properly, but the problem is that arcane blast has 5 yards more range than slow does. And because vortex is basically counting it as you casting slow, it won't go through until the mob hits slow's range.
The current workaround for this is to glyph slow, so that their ranges are the same.

Questions from a new mage
I am planning on starting raiding, but I was wondering if I'm ready for it. Also I have a couple of questions I've read around and haven't been able to get an answer from reading the stickies,
1. What's the pyro bug?
2. Should I let LB drop and re-apply or re-apply it before it wears off?
Pretty much, also, any help on spec, gearing, gemming and enchanting is welcomed. Thanks for you attention

Fire or Arcane? That is the question.
Ok, so I've been Arcane for a long while now and carry about 9k DPS single target. However, Arcane is getting boring just casting AB all day long. So, Fire is looking pretty interesting but will my DPS be the same? Also, what the hell is the rotation for Fire since there are several useful spells and talents.
I'd go frost before fire..
Frost = fun!

Arcane rotation at lvl 30?
I'm new to playing a mage. I have just come back to my parked lvl 30 mage.
I have done a bit of homework on what spec to level up with, and I've decided on Arcane for now.
But I have never played my mage with the new changes.
How do you play an Arcane mage at lvl 30? What's our rotation? Does one still exist?
I've tried to comb for answers. I've come up with a few things.. such as:
- 4x Arcane Blasts, then either a Arcane Barrage or a Arcane Missle. But I have no clue what else to throw in there and how.
I know I'm arcane spec, but do I ever use any of my other spells? Any of the Frost, or Fire based spells? Like Cone of Cold, or Frost Nova..or Scortch. Do any of these ever fit in to any sortof rotation?
Also I am not sure how do you apply it to Dungeons at lvl 30? With my old Frost spec, I was using mostly using AOE's in Dungeon's.. ie: Flame Strike and Blizzard.. But I noticed they are now both lvl 50 + spells. So I am not sure what we do in dungeons now with multiple mobs.
Thanks, Yewlin.
arcane is centered very much around arcane blast and how much mana you are using. You should be able to blow most everything up with 2-3 arcane blast and an arcane missile. Missiles are free cast so it saves mana in more ways then one.
Barrage is fine if you wanna get moving to the next target and you just need a little to finish the mob off.
For soloing, you will be able to start chaining 4x blast on multiple mobs when you get mage armor (It has ALOT of regen) but any time you are in an instance, just let lose with arcane blast at 4x. You can drink when ever, but if you let down the dps to conserve mana the mob will fall and you'll just be at the bottom of the dps meters. ;) Switch to missiles when your threat gets to high.
At level 30 you don't have a rotation. Just use arcane blast and arcane barrage as much as possible. Use arcane missiles whenever it procs. Have fun when you play, stop worrying about being perfect.

Warrior or Mage?
Like the title says. I have an 80 warrior and mage and im deciding which one to play. Which is better for pvp?
Thank you =)
help i must decide!
You decide, I'm leveling my mage first, its fun. But I bet this guy would be fun too.
If Arenas turn out anything like WotLK
Roll warrior, spec arms, find decent Holy Pally, play mancleave, ???, profit.
Both classes have always been solid in PvP and probably always will be.
If you're looking for solid 2's then i'd go with the warr. Otherwise stick with the mage :D

Recommend mage professions
After playing warrior for many years, I am trying out the other side and made a mage.
What would you recommend, and why?
Also, if tailoring, would first aid get in the way?
Thanks for all opinions :)
first aid gets in the way of tailoring.
i got tailoring and skinning (for cash)
Engy / herb. haste haste haste. yeeuh
Herbalism and Alchemy has worked well for me. Especially when I was lower levels, creating mana potions was helpful, and many effects can be useful. And you can always sell the herbs.
I couldn't live without my magic carpet and chopper.

so uhh, anyone mind telling me what the new spellpen cap is? i would greatly appreciate it.
PvP macro help
So I recently got my account back from being hacked and all of my macros are missing. I have no idea how to recreate some of them and I was wondering if anyone could help.
The main one is to sheep my focus and press shift to sheep my target.
Any help would be appreciated.
-Thanks

Blink.
Well i have had this alot on my mage. I use the blink and he teleports but his hands are still in the casting position with the arcane magic coming out of them. I can walk around in that position and nothing will attack me. My friend says that im still in the spot that i blinked and i diddent move. I cant do anything when im like that and i cant even log out exit or anything. I have had this glitch twice and i know im not lagging because i can talk and see my friend moving (my computers nice and it doesnt lagg). Im wondering if there is any way to fix it because it can get annoying.
Also i feal that blink shouldent be just teleport forward it should be that you select were you want to with that little green circle. So you can blink up and down and all around like in Warcraft 3 Blink.

So what are we capable of soloing now at 85?
Just interested in knowing what we can do now in older content (or perhaps even current) with the new level cap, anyone try anything new? and any word on Faxmonkey? Really love to hear if he pulled any more crazy mage stunts.
Whale Shark!
I'm gonna try at some point to go back into Karazhan though, and see what I can solo in there. I'd love to see some new Faxmonkey stunts as well. =3
I haven't tried soloing anything spectacular since i hit 85 but I did realize that I can solo a lot of trash in cata normal modes which is quite profitable, infact if you kill the elemental packs in vortex pinnacle up until you encounter the first cloud prince (cant seem to get that guy dead before he kills me) you will end up with 15-25 (on a good day) volatile airs...but keep that hush hush =)
You doing that as fire or frost?

Fire Blast for Frost Mages
Do you think its worth having on your bar when you can just icelance?
yeah definitely. if you get locked out of frost, you can still finish him off with that fiyah
For PvE you should be dropping into Ignite for maximum DPS, so Fire Blast can get an Ignite dot rolling for more damage.

[PVP] locked out frost: What to cast?
HEllo all i am a frost pvper and i was wondering what spell is best to cast when locked out of frost?
FIreball, arcane blast, arcane missle, even defensive spells can be included like mana shield, and mage ward if not on cooldown, and others you can think of.
Well, you'll obviously want to hit Mana Shield for the protection, though it's not as much (percentage wise) as it was at 80. It'll still mitigate some damage while you get back up.
Fire Blast does some pretty good damage, even as Frost, so you can hit that while running.
Your elemental isn't locked out with you, so make sure to use him for a Freeze if it's up.
Blink of course.
If you're really desperate, you can Invis and/or glyphed Evocate.
never understood these type of questions....depends on the situation...how many people are on you, is there a possibility of another kick...what buffs do you have up...do you have a target to resheep? is pet nova down? is blink up?
pet nova

Ele pet hp
ok our water ele's have around 60k hp, now siting in org I noticed a monkey pet for example had 107k hp. I would like to see the hp brought up a little, 100k? so it isnt 3 shotted
/discuss
While adding something to keep the ele alive would be wonderful, keep in mind that hunters rely on their pet a great deal more than you do.
Also keep in mind that the mage class is already op enough as it is, they don't need another buff.
Yeah, them arcane and fire mages sure are tearing up arenas, and we're totally topping dps charts in raids.
Nah, I can understand why mage pet health pool is low compared to the hunters pet. If our pet gets killed we can always cold snap another one if it's needed. If a hunter's pet gets killed, revive pet takes awhile to cast. Not a big fan of lock pets having bigger health pools though except voidwalker and maybe felguard...
Not to mention that mage pets are ranged, and hunter pets are melee, having to deal with the AoE. Yes, I realize they have AoE damage reduction, but still...

Pvp leveling mage. Race (alliance)??
I am pretty conflicted here and I need advice. This would be for a mage character I am making that is going to level primarily through pvp (i'll play him in my off time). I am stuck on what race to pick!
Long ago the easy answer would be gnome, but looking at some threads people are saying gnome isn't the greatest anymore and are picking worgen or humans over them. Why is this? Worgen get 1% crit and humans get the escape thing (and spirit?) but I just can't decide.
Gnome or dorf for amazing beards. Honestly though, just go with what looks good to you.
gnome thats what im doing now
Went Worgen because of the crit and the dash type racial. Dunno if gnome would have been better, but the quick levels are awesome.

Proffesions for mage
I have tailoring currently and don't want enchanting whats a good alternative to enchanting.
Enchanting
Herbalism for the haste buff
Jewelcrafting. The better gems are really nice
Deleted by Cakezilla
Probably a gathering profession. Skinning for the Crit if your fire, Herbalism for the haste otherwise.
I use Engineering and Alchemy, because they both support nice PvP and PvE enchants, buffs, and gear, they can be very useful money making profs with Alchemy i have made 4kg in the last week, as a Transmute Master, by creating Truegold and Inferno Rubies and selling them in AH, although... i don't know if that is a lot for a week... lol :D

Fire PvP Spec
I'm in need of a lot of guidance. I think I have down the skeleton of a spec, but I'm a little fuzzy on some points:
Firestarter (Improved Scorch)
Molten Fury
Firepower
Pyromaniac
Improved Flamestrike
Due to level I'm doing exclusively BGs, but I will most likely be doing arena at 85.

That also works. Thanks.

Water Elemental Waterbolt.
I notice that the spell graphic for Starsurge that druids use looks more like a "waterbolt." So I must ask, why isn't this the graphic for my WE waterbolt spell?
Also, the tooltips for our WE spells need to be updated like every other spell so that it actually tells us how much damage my waterbolt/frost nova does. Currently my tool tip for waterbolt tells me it does 349 damage, when it actually does well over 1000.
Please get this fixed Blizzard.
Also I would like to add in that my water elemental only has about 1/3rd of the spellpower that I have.
Because he is only a part of your damage, he is supposed to only have a portion of your power, not the whole thing.

SpellSteal Mod like Xperl?
What is a spell steal mod that is like one of the modules in xperl unit farm? (where the spellstealable buffs are large icons)?
Thanks.
Do you really need something JUST for spellsteal? I mean, they highlight the buffs that can be stolen now, and it's not hard to memorize which little picture is what.
Mage Nuggets actually has a seperate window that will pop up if you're targeting a mob with spellstealable buffs.
Except my target's health bar is modified with Pitbull and it's next to my action bars.
And I think you misunderstood. I don't need "TEXT" I just need spell icons to spellsteal.
Hmm, anyone? Or, does such mod not exist? Thanks.
For those unfamiliar with xperl -such as myself- what functionality are you after? display only buffs that are spellstealable, or just highlight them in some way?
P.S. Did you see my post in your thread about specific aura tracking?
Debuff filter is a very versitile addon I use for all buff/debuff uses.
You can specify in a frame (either the default buff one for the target, or a custom made one) to only show stealable buffs.
XPerl will make stealable buff icons double-sized and if I recall it will also highlight them with a sparkling border. It is a pretty nice feature.

Hit Cap?
Whats the current hit cap for level 80 spell casters?
A level 80 needs 446 hit like always. I assume you mean 85 which is 1742.
Ya lol my bad ment 85 lol so used to 80 :D

Mage Spec & Questions (PvP)
So I'm going to try to get into PvP this expansion. I've always enjoyed dueling and whatnot, but I've mainly been a PvE player. My mantra used to be, "If I want to PvP i'll go play call of duty". But, step outside the box you know :P
I assume focus is used quite heavily in PvP. I use it all the time during raids to keep track of CC targets or targets of interest, it's built into my macros and whatnot. Are there any particular strategies to use it?
Can someone explain our DR situation? We have so many nova's and freezes these days, I'd really like to know what I need to keep in mind when kiting.
And the frost spec to play. This is what I drew up:
http://wowtal.com/#k=SHqVg6oY.a8t.mage.-1QCjW
I'm not sure if improved cone of cold and shattered barrier share a DR...if they do, that would obviously need to be changed. And I was going to go for improved blink, but impact just seems so ridiculous. I'm assuming it DRs with deep freeze though.
And what glyphs are you going to use, assuming you are playing a spec very similar to mine? I listed what I thought I would use. I know I'll be playing with either a feral druid or warlock, so I figured the polymorph glyph is a must have.

Why am I losing stats
I can understand why hit is changing but not sure why we are losing stats like crit and haste both were over 35% or more before now its in single numbers.
I know its early but when we made the jump from bc to lk it felt like I was getting more powerfull with every level and gear upgrade. Now I fell weaker with every lv to 85 and equiping newer items seam to have no effect on my dps.
It is a new expansion.
Think of it as starting over.
We all have the crappiest gear possible for 85 right now becuase the expansion just released. They had to provide room to grow for over a year of upgrades and new content and new gear that will be coming in your future.
Technically speaking: it takes more crit, haste, hit rating to = 1% at lvl 85 than at 80.
Furthermore, Blizzard admitted that they did things wrong in wotlk. They set the rating requirements for each stat too low, which is why we had obscenely high crit and haste percentages and such. This is how they're fixing it, they need to leave room for us to grow in this xpac, but since they made the mistake in wotlk they need to right it, so it will feel like (and in many cases will actually be) we're getting weaker as we level from 80-85.
It's unfortunate, but necessary or we'd all be at 100% haste, crit, hit pretty darn quickly.
I dont mind getting my crit bashed but 17% hit is retarded.
From what I hear all classes have reduced crit chance compared to before. Also if you look at new tier gear you will notice that the dps sets only have crit on 1 or 2 pieces. So I think blizzard wants us to have to work more for crit chance then we are used to.

Mage Leveling Advice?
I'm leveling this Mage at the moment. I have been leveling as Arcane lately and I've dabbled in Frost back pre 70.
What is the best tree for leveling 70+?
What is a good example spec?
What type of glyphs should I look for?
I'd really like to try out being a Fire Mage if it is at all viable. Or Frost if that's viable too, but I'd prefer Fire. I just want a change of scenery for a few levels unless Arcane is significantly better
Feel free to offer advice on tweaking my Arcane spec/glyphs too, I probably didn't do it properly.
Thank you!
Shameless self bump?
I started this character a week before cata came out and have been frost the entire way, ice barrier was really useful when I had low HP and it absorbed a decent amount, but at 44k HP it absorbs pretty much the same amount as it did around 79, so after today I was going to try out fire and give it a shot. Frost is really fun, you should give it a shot last night I was ice lancing things for 11k easily.
Anybody have any experience with leveling as Fire? I've heard Fire is really fun. I'm just getting tired of using 3 buttons all the time.
Any other experience with Frost leveling?

FFB
Is FFB a lieable spec ?
Frostfire Bolt is a viable alternative to Fireball in a proper Fire spec, if glyphed.
Would it be worth specing it ? Over Frost, Fire or Arcane ?
Well, FFB uses the exact same spec as a basic fire spec, you just use FFB as your primary nuke. It's a very very slight dps loss from using Fireball as your nuke, not really enough of a difference to matter.

What gear do I need to do good DPS with Fire?
Hey.
I've heard that Fire scales really well with gear, and I was just wondering with what level gear does this become apparent?
Thanks.
still waiting myself then again not #!@! for raid gears has been dropping for me
I'd say if you can get 25% flat crit with no buffs then you'll start to see some damage, otherwise it's pretty much the same as frost if not worse at times. Fire is very gear dependent, I wasn't fire in WoTLK until I had 45% flat crit and that was at the end of the expansion. I feel that holds true in a lot of way and lots of mages are crying about their fire deeps and they only have 15% crit. GG
Depends on what you're doing.
Key is realizing there's a huge difference in hit cap between raiding and heroics. You only need like 6-7% for Heroics and a whopping 17% for Raids. I focused most of my gear primarily on hit and crit and when I was running Heroics on a fairly regular basis there for a few days I reforged most of my hit rating into either Crit or Haste/Mastery.
At 25% crit I find Fire can still be a bit spotty. If you go too long without procing enough crits to get even semi reliable Hotstreaks it can be painful (especially when you have a 5k Living Bomb DOT + 10k Ignite DOT and are just missing Pyro for a great Combustion). With a Feral around I found myself reliably getting Hotstreak procs at 30% crit, so I imagine once you're able to get to the point you're hit capped and at 30% crit buffed up you should be good to go.
With the gear options I currently have I can push myself to around 17.41% hit and little over 25% chance to crit self buffed but my Haste is suffering (can be fixed with a few additions here and there but need to wait till I get ). Have only been 85 since last Monday so it's certainly not very difficult to gear up, but did have a little help from an alt and my Valor BOE boots ;)
Mana Management really comes down to rotation and crit rating in the end. More practice you get at the various Scorch rotations the easier time you'll have of it. However without enough crit you really can't pull it off since you'll never crit any mana back. Even with the new reductions (which will certainly help) still going to require you do the proper rotation on fights that last anything longer than 3-5 minutes.
Thank you for replies. Think I will just stick with arcane till my crit gets a bit higher.
I'm saying 25% no molten no buffs. Imp fireblast is nice too to add to that scorch rotation to try to fish for hot streak.

How does everybody like their Mage?
I sure like mine.
Yea that sounds about right, its due to the fact that in BRD there are these mobs
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=8908
They take a lot of extra frost damage (frostbolt and frostfirebolt) so thats why you were hitting so hard, always been like that, surprised me too at a low level.
Edit: OP changed their title, it used to be about these mobs, I'm not on anything.
Uhm, what you smoking? No idea as to what you're referring to. But you must like your Mage too! ^^;
I love my mage. While some may consider it an easy class to play, I am finding it a challenging class to master. I have a really hard time against rogues, paladins and other mages too.
I really liked the revisions to our Glyphs on that last patch and I am looking forward to those 80-85 abilities.
Mages and Druids are pretty much the only classes I can stand playing.
I've been playing this mage since 2005! *sniff*
I love it, I'm a much harder target to kill, even as Arcane.

Question about Arcane Mages
Is Arcane Blast over powered? \
I haven't pvped on my priest since the patch and there's nothing I can do, yea I'm in relentless and he's in wrathful but I time my SW Deaths with his polymorph, time my PW Shield and Renew and use my macro to remove the aura when I think he's about to spell steal and time prayer of mending with the incoming damage.
I also try to interrupt the spells. Is it OP or not?

No more self porting?
Soooo, I wanted to port my alt Shaman to Orgrimmar recently, so I did as I usually would. I'd invite my friend to the group, pass him lead, and have him invite my mage. I'd go to the location of where my alt was, make a portal, and log out. Then I'd log on my alt, and take the portal. Well, here's the problem. That doesn't work anymore. Nor me or my friend could use the portal to Orgrimmar. WHY?!?!? -.-
I don't know if its a bug or what, if the mage is offline, or the mage has already entered said portal, it won't work. (Which, before the patch, when the mage took the portal it would just dissapear).
I think you have to tip yourself 100g before the portal will work as of 4.0.3a.
This hasn't worked for at least a year. I tried to send a leveling alt to Dal last Christmas, and I was unable to take the port on my alt.
ehh, I've had it working before 4.0.3a. idk what happened though.

Fire PVP & Haste
I've been doing some BG's using Fire & was wondering what you all think about this.
I know most recommendations are for Crit gear over Haste. My ? is why not stack as much Haste as you can to make scorch as instant as possible? With the ability to move while casting....it's almost as if you have another fireblast ready to be used.
How have you all been doing as fire PVP? My survivability is tough right now.
you pretty much answered your own question. survivability is tough as fire so you need good burst, which isn't gonna come from a bunch of non crit scortchs, not to mention how little youll proc pyro

All Blink'd up and no place to go!
Dear Blizz,
Please fix terrain. I am constantly blinking nowhere because there is a graphical change in terrain that I have no issues running over, but blinking gets stuck on.
kthnxbye
Been that way for 6 years, dont think they are gonna change it lol
blink is a pretty complex spell, they have these rules for a good reason, if they tried to fix it by removing some of the safe guards you would get people blinking into open space or over water or into the air.
Same Prob, Please Fix. kthnxbye

Fire mage arena?
Are there any other mages running fire for arena? My team just started yesterday and i have yet to see any fire mages other than myself. I just cleared 1750 in 2's running resto-druid/fire and 1550 in 3's with ret/fire/resto-druid.
Edit: im not trying to say im awesome at arena (becuase my ratings prove otherwise) im just curious if anyone else if playing fire.
I am and I'm loving it. I just have no luck with frost. I am in a 2s team with a rogue and we broke 1100. Which I'm quite proud of.
There's a fire mage around named Anaxagoras-Stormrage, but I don't know if hes running fire for arenas currently. He has a bunch of vids up around the net.
Edit: I mention him because he did fire when no one else was doing it. His videos actually inspired me to try fire, and I love it, even though I no longer do arenas. I see right after I posted this that he's got yet another thread at the top of the forum page, and he's changed his name to Anaxasaurus.
I did fire arena for a few weeks, got to 1850 or so with a holy paladin in 2's. If you're just playing for fun I suggest this spec, since it's quite enjoyable to play. If you actually want to be serious about arena, roll another class. Other than frost no other specs are viable in high end arena. In the end fire mages will always get !###d by easier and stronger classes in arena.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1756042592?page=1
I'm running fire in 2s at a 2k mmr and there are a handful of other mages running fire as well. One even hit 2700 with a spell cleave comp in 3s.
It is doable.
I hit 2.2k as frost / fire mage in 2's, I'm going to get some 3's started as well soon hoping to get past 2.2k so it's doable.
The synergy between a shatter fire mage and a frost mage is amazing
check out bake's thread its pretty solid.
There are some of us out there, we just fly under the radar due to everyone qqing about frost.

Here's to hoping
...that the arcane (or any mage spec for that matter - but specifically arcane) hotfixes and/or PTR notes are not finalized. The hotfixes helped, but nowhere near enough.
So, perhaps arcane is more than competitive and amazing in the next tier of content, or even the tier after that. Perhaps the large amount of intellect we gain from full t11 heroic gear++ is sufficient enough to allow mage armor to keep our mana full enough to not do sub par dps. These are all speculations that many people have brought up recently... but my point to blizzard is this:
Why should a talent tree be designed for content that is unreachable (for quite some time)? Additionally, that question is assuming that arcane is even usable with high intellect - so there's no guarantee that it even is competitive dps then.
All I'm asking for is something to be done to make arcane competitive in raids and pvp so I stop regretting making a class that only has two talent trees! :)

Mages now..
what's the best pve spec for a freshly dinged 80 now?
Is it still arcane or is there a better dps spec now.
Thanks
You should probably spec into dealing magic damage of some sort. It's not like you're going to be doing any min/maxing for an endgame that will last another 13 days.
Try all three specs in the next 13 days and get a feel for how they all work, some of the ins and outs of all the talents that aren't right away obvious. Find a spec you like in pve, find a spec you like in pvp, find a spec you think you wanna level in and then when cata comes out spec whicever two you want (leveling to level, but if you wanna pve instance and world pvp while leveling I would make a hybrid pvp/leveling spec to level up in.)
try them all out and see what works best for you mate :]
fire is gear dependant, frost is pvp, arcane is pretty much fool proof in any gear and skill level.

Mage Blink sound.
I know a handful of people who have a sound effect macro'd to their Blink key.
If you could Blink with a sound effect!!
What sound would you make when you blinked... blank... blunk???
A fart.
There was an addon a while back.. it replaced a lot of simple WoW sounds with that of Super Mario Bros. Blinking had the sound of mario growing (eating a mushroom) which i think was awsm as...
What was that addon again?

My LVL 80 Mage Hates the New Zones
Alright, hate is probably too strong of word. I should say the new zones are not really agreeing with my old lvl 80 mage.
I've been gone for quite awhile. This toon hasn't seen the light of day since probably last year.
Right now, he's getting destroyed in the expansions first area. Every fight seems to come down to the wire (3x now the mob and I died at the end of the fight). I've died as many times now during the first two quests then I did in the last expansion (well that's probably an exaggeration, but you get the point.)
I'm guessing part of the problem is gear related. I did almost no raids with this guy, so his stuff is mostly 70's green and blues.
I was previously a happy go lucky of hybrid, mostly arcane. However, I respec'd to fire, so I'm not entirely sure what my rotation should be at level 80.
Anyway, I'm looking for a solid pve spell rotation and some suggestions on which glyphs I should be using. And feel free to provide any other suggestions or criticisms that you think would help this mage.
Because right now, he's just no fun to play.
I'd recommend Frost. Fire is the most gear reliant spec we have and your gear is really bad. Frost will give you a lot of extra survivability to make up for your lack of killing power.
x1 go frost. The survivability is so much better and makes thing easier. The water elemental helps also.
Pfft. this guy here doesn't even have level 80 dungeon gear.
For any mage, if you're having trouble staying alive, go Frost, no matter what the situation is.
Also, you mage reflexes might be rusty, after being away from the class for a year. Reflex-action Blinking, Frost Nova'ing, and knowing when to snap Invisibility or Mirror Image will come back with time.
gday mate,
Well your 1st problem is fire. Fire is reliant on crits and high spell power neither of these do you have.
let's look at the benefits frost give you
100% uptime on pet
frost barrier
Nova x3 Frost barrier, nova, imp cone of cold.
iceblock.
coldsnap

heres a small guide for leveling and killing a mob.
pet nova as you start the fight (so as your about to attack the mob pet nova him)
cast frostbolt, as you frostbolt is just finished casting be hitting icelance straight away to maximise burst.
the mob is slowed, re-cast frostbolt maybe 2 or 3 times, if the mob is close to you Nova (your nova not the pets) the mob and get range, repeat stage 1. throw in a fireblast and it should be dead.
If you get stuck and need a "oh sh!t" button iceblock and just wait a bit, your pet nova could be off cooldown or your own, when you come out of iceblock simply nova :)
Hope this helped pal!
No specific stats are really required for any spec to work for leveling. That said, Frost is still going to be the "easier" leveling spec because it has more abilities that allow you to control your enemy's movement while mostly just standing still, and casting.
lol, This character went obsolete soon as T8 was released. I hated the model so much I stopped playing the character I had always loved the most. You want to level in the new expansion, then either go Arcane or Frost. My suggestion though is that you should go Arcane. Higher upfront burst imo and always applies a slow effect. USE POLYMORPH. Learn when to use Mirror Image. In other words work your class to it's maximum potential.
I went into this expansion with CRAP for gear, and I have yet to even come close to dying once. Maybe because I had had 2 years experience on a mage prior to this expansion but I doubt that had much to do with it.
Arcane spec Polymorph.. When you hit your polymorphed target, IT'S STUNNED. Amazing. Screw the having to rely on kiting and shatter, just go arcane and kill everything before it even gets to you. You won't run out of mana and your Evocation has a reduced CD and your mana gem also gives you more spellpower.
I don't suggest using arcane while doing dungeons though, you'll see why.
I'd also like to add that I haven't once been forced into having to use ice block at all during this expansion. Then again it's probably because I'm highly alert to every mob in my surrounding area and I'm careful to not aggro extra stuff. Being a mage is all about being aware. Kind of how a rogue is all about being patient.

Thank you very much for the replies folks.
Incidentally, I just walked into the auction house looking at my gear.
OMG is my stuff crap, lol.
I'm grabbing frost and well commence practicing. I am definitely rusty.
Also, thanks for the mini guide. It will come in handy.
btw this is the OP. Didn't realize I changed toons.
Go back to arcane. In every cata all you need to follow is swap between two rotations to kill mobs.
1: Fire Orb. Arcane Missiles (repeat).
2: Arcane Blast x3 Presence of Mind (in there if active). Arcane Missiles/Blast. Fire Blast just in case.
Extremely simple rotations. Mobs will never ever reach you escpecially if you use mana shield and frost nova.

Top 10 Reasons the Mage is Better Than You
The Top 10 Reasons the Mage is Better Than You:
10. He can shoot fireballs. What else needs to be said?
9. He can conjure food and water. Yes, even if it does cause immediate bathroom attention.
8. He can teleport around the world. No body cavity searches from transportation security.
7. He can increase your intellect. Now you can raise your test scores from D- to D!
6. He can make you fall slower. Ever want to jump off a building? Now you can! (WARNING: Only lasts for 30 seconds. After that, well...)
5. He can turn people into barnyard animals. Now you can live the real life experience of being "some pig".
4. He can turn invisible. Girls locker rooms were shut down for a reason.
3. He can make mirror images of himself. Does his girlfriend ever wonder why he's always silent with a blank expression when they visit her mother?
2. He can warp the very fabric of time! He just needs to get a running start to reach 88 MPH.
1. He can shoot fireballs, dang it! F-I-R-E-B-A-L-L-S!

Why give mages heroism at level 85?
I was looking at my mage alt and saw time warp (or something similarly named) which is heroism by any other name. Of all classes why give it to mages? Why could not shammys have a monopoly on it (I am against giving it to hunter pets too)
Because they want to balance encounters on pretty much always having heroism. Some like it, some don't, doesn't matter because we're all going to have to deal with it.
"Bring the player not the class."
Ok so does not it decrease the value of shammys substantially? I was getting excited about my enhancement shammy and all that I could bring to the group as a dps and now they take the best buff shammys have and give it to just about everyone. With recent changes, blizzard is "nudging" people to play mages. Transportation between cities is a nightmare plus mages are making EVEN MORE money porting people since dal/shat portals are no more.
It's only a danger if your Shaman underperforms compared to that Mage or Hunter (not likely since you need to be BM).
The whole point is to alleviate the restrictions in groups, specifically 10 man raids. No longer do they need only a Shaman or miss out on Heroism, but they could bring a Mage instead and still move forward.
This parity of abilities isn't anything new, it's just being expanded.
While I find this quote to be annoying, it's rather true here.
Blizzard spread it out because they finally admitted that it's an important buff, and spreading it out to other classes ensures a higher chance you're going to have it in a raid, as opposed to just having to reserve a slot for a Shaman.
It's especially important with Blizzards new raiding model (as mentioned above). 10 mans are going to be very popular. As someone that's has run very few 25's since Ulduar and doesn't have much interest in them, god I can't wait to finally get good trinkets :D
Also because Blizz couldn't come up with an actual new dps spell for mages at 85 and they figured they had to give us something.
If you start a petition on the DD forum to give it to locks in exchange for Demon Soul or whatever your 85 spell is, I'll /sign for you.
I was under impression that raid leading was supposed to be an occupation that took SOME skill. Deciding what classes/specs to bring to a particular fight is part of the job. If you make it so you can bring whatever classes you want as long as you have a correct mix of tanks/healers/dps it makes raid leader's job easier than it should be.
I tell you this much. If I had heirlooms for a cloth caster I would be leveling my mage right now because mages have it easier when you consider the totality of wow experience. I would give up demon soul for heroism any time of day since mages having heroism would mean I would be that much less likely to be invited to raids vis-a-vis a mage.
I don't see it as being such a pedestrian decision.
If you have a Shaman and a Mage to choose from to compile a group with Heroism if the Shaman outperforms the Mage, you bring the Shaman. If the Mage outperforms the Shaman, bring the Mage. etc...
Just offers raid leaders more flexibility.
Ghostcrawler told us they considered removing all raid buffs, because "players think about it too much". They left it in the game because buffing each other is fun. I'm sure Blizzard understands the appeal of wanting to bring a lot of buffs to a group, but they tried it in TBC and it was impossible to balance and caused massive problems, so they've made buffs much more marginal.
Could be worse, could be a Molten Core paladin.
5 minute blessing bot.
I believe you meant to say "Bloodlust."
Alliance scum.
Honestly I don't understand why they gave it to mages, which already had multiple raid buffs, over rogues, which have never had a selective-use buff (being honest- Expose Armor really doesn't count except in the rare occasions of no warrior), but I've gotten over it. At the very least, this will finally supplant shamans from the position of most desired raid class.
Job well done, in my opinion.
If anything Shammies should be happy that utility stuff is being handed out to other classes. So when their dps is underperforming, they have more claim to demanding Bliz to look into it and fix it. No longer will comments such as "oh, you still have a raid spot because of BL/heroism" be valid.
I'm not sure what multiple raid buffs you're talking about here btw, we have uh... one. Shamans still have totems which are very desirable, I daresay more than a once every 10 minute buff.
Strength of Earth: Just kidding, Horn of Winter.
Stoneskin: Just kidding, Devotion Aura
Flametongue: Just kidding, Arcane Brilliance.
Elemental Resistance / Glyphed Healing Stream: Just kidding, Resistance Aura.
Wrath of Air: Just kidding, Mind Quickening.

Bloodlust: Just kidding, Time Warp.
What was that? We still have totems?
I have a hard time finding totems to place in 10-mans where I'm the only shaman.
It used to only be a problem in 25-mans where there were three or more.
Hunter pets have it too. So yeah, no more "NEED 1M SHAMAN ONLY PST PST PST" stuff, boo hoo hoo. =(
hmmm... I see 2/7 taken from mages... Why not complain about pallys with this arguement? they are 2/7 as well. Notice how shamans still have buffs taken from 5 other classes. Do the math.

Ice Barrier and Mana Shield both nerfed 30%+
My mage's shields are both absorbing about 30% less today, stealth nerfed.
Are you sure you're not just counting the ICC buff to be the norm?
Positive
wtb proof
Mine is still at 11k, I don't know what you're talking about...
It doesn't need a change. DF + Icelance spamming does.
I am obviously QQing.
I believe this may be a tooltip error. Actual absorption on glyphed Ice Barrier is pretty much what I expect, and is 30% higher than the unglyphed value shown on the tooltip (if I remove the glyph, that is). However, the glyphed tooltip value is much lower than it should be (and does not match the actual absorption value).

Begging for a minor glyph for TimeWarp
As the title says, I want Blizzard to make one more minor glyph that skip the body size increase part of Time Warp. My alt night elf female mage just hit 85 and just learn TimeWarp, I mean it's awesome for combat, but everytime when I cast it my toon became like taller than a Tauren, she looks so silly with that increased size. I understand why bloodlust and heroism increasing the body size, but why TimeWarp need to be the same way, it doesnt make sense and looks stupid. I think the purple ball in hand is already obvious enough for the enemy player to notice the spell if we consider this in a PVP environment. Blizzard please make this happen, it really bother me a lot.
Yeah and those tauren get even taller. WTF are you talking about man? This is the most god awful QQ I have ever even seen on these wow forums, I mean.. just wow.
I would like a minor glyph that removes the size increase but makes us glow every color of the rainbow in some insanely awesome none top-of-the-line-computer crashing kind of way, just close your eyes when u enter arena and pop TW and you win!
goodness me, it appears you angered the spirit of the internet with an original thought and reasonable request. how dare you. DAMN you you diabolical bastard, making people read your post then selecting a scathing troll reply for this, you'll never get away with it.
Perhaps not using a glyph, but a different animation would be interesting.
I think maybe exaggerated twitches would be kind of cool. I thought of the ghosts from the movie house on haunted hill. Here's a youtube link, put the cursor at seven minutes to see what I'm takling about, where the ghost just blinks right to her.

Careful, it is a horror movie tho
Here's the toon I was talking about in the topic, I really like this toon but all that increasing body size with Time Warp just annoy me so much. Too bad that its such a powerful spell that you cant skip, with Time Warp up I can land 5 lances in one Deep Freeze

Careful, it is a horror movie tho
Here's the toon I was talking about in the topic, I really like this toon but all that increasing body size with Time Warp just annoy me so much. Too bad that its such a powerful spell that you cant skip, with Time Warp up I can land 5 lances in one Deep Freeze
welcoming myself to the mage fam :D
just started a troll mage last night, only at level 10. I never made an alt, and always wanted a mage so I'm going to give it a shot. I'm big into pvp, so eventually I know I'll spec frost...But my question is.....what should I spec into while leveling? I'll be doing alot of BG's to farm honor too...so what will be the best all around? Anyway, I'm stoked on leveling this alt and liking it so far! :D
Spec whatever you want to level. It honestly doesn't matter. Personally I find Frost "safer", but all 3 specs can handle leveling perfectly fine. If you want to be frost when you hit top level, maybe level as Frost to get a good feel for everything.
((: thanks! i forgot I picked frost already last night....I've never had a pet...and controlling this pet is awesome! haha. bye bye pally o_0
I am doing frost, and I'm about lvl 50 now. its fun. I find that if I plan to play a certain spec end game, I level that spec. This way I will know it inside and out. I'm a PvPer as well so this is how I am specing. I have run BG's and they are going well. We do not survive all that well without our shields or deep freeze, but its going pretty good.
Hey Mon, welcome to ze family

Easiest instance leveling spec?
So, I got this rogue to thirty a few months ago by just doing random crap, now I'm making a mage and I still got no idea how to work this game. Just got my guy to level 10, and now I gotta pick a spec, all three look fine, but anything looks fine on paper. Just looking for the basic leveling spec, shoot magic till monsters die, generally while trying to not-die myself. I pretty much just level by randomly spamming the dungeon finder, don't know where the right quests are and also don't know where to fine them, so constant instancing is just what I do.
Keep in mind I don't need an entire guide or anything, just bullet points will be fine. Anything that sounds helpful will be helpful to me, spam firebolt till they die, spam frostbolt till they die, ect.
~Thanks
Go frost. Permanent water elemental, mana efficent and alot of survival abilities.
frost....still loving it at 85
i'd say frost, I've only been outdpsed by pally tanks on aoe pulls and the occasional good hunter
plus, frost is amazing in BGs, I can kill DKs at the 55-59 bracket
Frost and then dual spec to Fire at level 30, it costs 10g at that point. Imo Fire is really good in instances because you do so much damage, although Frost has its benefits in CC. People that tell you frost is OP are talking about Frost in PvP, it seems fine PvE.
i lvled arcane and had no problems. im 64 and found that all specs seem very mana efficient so far.
i didnt choose frost because i didnt want to deal with a pet.
oh, and as far as advice on frost dps goes, spam frostbolt till fingers of frost proc, then icelance till FoF is gone, then back to frostbolt spam using arcane missles or brainfreeze procs as they come up
for a dps boost on bosses use the water ele's freeze on cooldown to proc FoF for some extra dps
and if you cast frostbolt then icelance as soon as the frostbolt cast is done they both go at the same time saving an extra GCD

Help Me?
What can I do to get my dps up, My gear isnt that great but I feel like I cant even run heroics because my dps is lacking
any and all adivce would be nice, I just want to actually be helpful for once instead of the usless vending machine
Broken spec
Your gears not even to 333 (needed to run heroics and once you do RUN HEROICS)
I mean really it's a gear issue. You have some healing items and quite a few greens. You can't expect to be good with greens.
Run your randoms. Get your blues. Use Justice Points and buy items to help you. I think most of them are 346 ilvl.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1577520163
For fire mage spec/help/everything
Ok cool thanks alot
First off, you should read the fire mage sticky, it'll help with everything.
You've got a lot of spirit on you gear, you should reforge it so something that's useful. You're missing basically all of your glyphs, which is inexcusable. At least get your prime glyphs (fireball, molten armor, pyro/LB). Enchant some of your gear, don't have to do everything with the best enchants, but if it's 333, at least put on a cheap one.

PvE frost and FF
I'm /really/ confused about this. I've read Elitist Jerks and several threads here, but it's still not coming together for me.
So, when FF procs [and BF/DF are both down]
Do you you cast:
FB -> FB+IL
or
IL -> IL?
or something else?
Likewise, when DF is up, do you cast:
FB -> FB+DF
or
DF -> IL?
Taken from Elitist Jerks:
Perhaps the biggest news for frost in Cata is that there is an actual rotation to use in raiding and that there are enough levers to adjust that it is to be expected that frost damage should be raid-worthy without being overpowered in pvp. This is a huge change for frost. The current theorycrafted rotation can be expressed as a priority list. You are monitoring various procs and cooldowns and make your decisions based on the following rules.
6.Frostbolt.
so you only want to use frost bolt when FoF is not up, With frost fire orb as a higher priority if its not on CD. Only use pet freeze when deep dreeze is off CD,
You know, I've read that probably four times. For whatever reason I kept skipping this line:
Thank you.

Low Level Frost Mage Rotation
Can someone direct me to a guide on how to maximize dps with this spec please...or splain it here. Thx :)
How are you going to gem and forge your gear
have any of you tried the new raid dummy. Im guessing he is level 85 and every shot i gave him MISSED. my hit cap is junk now. What IS the new hit cap...and how will we all obtain it. Are you going to re-gem and chant / forge for mooooore hit so u can at least hit your target, but lose alot in other specs. I mean, we HAVE to do them new dungeons to get the new gear that we need. (which i hate cuz I only got to enjoy my full set of bad ass gear and super hits for less than a year) ... so what ya gonna do ? just sacrafice now to get all the hit right away. I mean HIT is the first spec to cap.
Raid dummies are lvl 88. Hit cap should still be 17% for first raid tier, I guess. I'm unaware of how much this is in terms of lvl85 hit rating, so I'll just wait to ding 85 and check how much hit is needed for 1% and do the math. Considering I probably wont be using my t10 and ICC gear at 85, most hit will come from quests and dungeon gear at first, proper reforging and gemming.
And hit is not a spec, it's a stat.
Way I figure, it'll be gem int, forge hit.
Int+mastery gems for socket bonuses, int+hit gem(s) for meta. Then we'll play with sims balancing mastery/haste/crit EPs via reforging after capping hit.
Gems I see as being changed very infrequently, in lieu of reforging's capabilities.
Of course you missed it, you're 8 levels below the boss. Just wait until you get to 85, you'll need way less hit to hit a boss than you do now.
I think the hit cap at 85 is somwhere near 1760 if I remember correctly.
i'll probably end up gemming/forging the same way i'm geared/forged now.
yea I think Im gonna just casually quest and do dungeons till I get to 85, then try to do heroics and raids. And gem for HIT first...then int...crit.. mastery ..then haste. as a fire mage. ...sound about right?
did i hear someone say that there is a gem now for INT/mastery!!!??? sounds great.
Believe it or not, int is better than hit at 85.
int > hit > crit > haste > mastery for fire.
I'm going to stay arcane.
Gem for int and hit.
Reforge all my haste and some crit into mastery.
IMO haste and crit have been rendered completely useless.
at 85 the spell hit cap will remain 17%; however, the amount of rating to achieve this 17% at 85 is highly infalted, and requires around 1700 hit rating.
since u mention caps...i never get a strait answer. WHAT WILL ALL THE CAPS BE FOR A MAGE... (fire mainly)
isnt it nuts that were all gonna be wearing green gear again...haha all mis matched. till we get to 85 for a while and get raid gear. o fun. =(
Since you asked in all caps, please read the following thread carefully as it most likely answers all of your questions plus many more that you haven't even thought of yet:
http://elitistjerks.com/f75/t106009-cataclysm_mage_resources/
There are not any hard "caps" for anything but Hit Rating, which does not vary between specs. I wouldn't worry too much about soft caps as a fresh 85. It will be quite a while before we bump up against those.
Intellect > Haste > Mastery > Crit
You would be better off reforging that crit into haste if your gear doesn't already have it and the rest into mastery.
I never got into any raids on Beta. So it seemed the little benefit I got from haste was worthless in dungeons.
But, I could see on longer fights where haste could be of some use. Like on 5min+ fights.
Ill have to hop on over to EJ and check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
i thought that for a FIRE mage.. it was int...hit...then crit...haste...mastery like, crit is so imporant for a fire mage i guess?

noob mage question
what spec is the best to lvl a mage?
I'm loving arcane right now, i kill most everything with a couple of arcane blasts with an arcane missile thrown in as a finisher. I had frost for awhile and it was fun too, just took a bit longer to kill things, but I almost never got hit by any mobs. (although now that my arcane blast has slow added to it i never get touched anymore) Just really comes down to opinion of play style I think, I'd rather have a ton of fun leveling at a medium pace then play a way I wouldn't want to that's uber quick. Hope this helps just a bit ^^
It used to be frost spec. Now with the new expansion it may have changed. I just started a low level 5 night elf mage and was planning on going frost.
gonna try frost spec till i get higher lvl than ima go to arcane thanks guys
You have about 7-9 days of playtime to figure out which spec you like most...
Frost for leveling & PvP
Arcane for sick damage PvE
Yeah...afterwards you will no longer be able to unlearn your talents.
/nods
That being said I am still going back and forth.
I like Fire but that pyroblast cast time is too damn long.
Early Cata sims suggest this is not true. Fire looks to be topping the charts, with Frost and Arcane competing reasonably closely. Play what you enjoy in PvE.
Frost has long brought the most PvP control, but Arcane and Fire look quite viable as well, especially in BGs.

Spriests v Mage
How do you get rid of them at this level i always try to steal their PW: Shield but end up getting there dumb Shadow Orbs... Any tips on fighting this class one on one?
Spell Steal Again? :-?
as a priest I'm honestly frustrated by mages at this lvl, as spellshield is just a better dispell....
counters disc so well, shadow too
Having an 80 shadow priest and an 84 mage, it's rather easy to discern which will generally have the upper hand. As a mage I have very little difficulty; I find arcane in particular to make the majority of encounters with priests of all specializations virtually painless.
Begin with polymorph: If you uncomfortable with your haste percentage and foresee an early silence, counterspell them prior to initiating the cast (assuming you have improved counterspell).
Spellsteal.. everything. Don't limit yourself to buffs that benefit you. Take shadow orbs, take them all. Having the ability to steal PW:S within seconds of its application is of immeasurable value.
The remainder of the fight will vary depending on your talents, of course. I wind up an arcane blast, then toss out another. With improved polymorph, a polymorph broken by damage will result in a three second stun, so there's now fear of an interrupt during the second cast.
Presence of mind --> third arcane blast.
Use counterspell here if you omitted it from your opener. Ramp up a fourth arcane blast.
If your purple friend is still standing (a distinct possibility) he won't be for long. Your actions from here will be determined by the actions of your opponent.
Things to remember:
I. Spellsteal frequently
II. Iceblock removes damage over time effects, use it when they're in full force
III. Invisibility should generally follow an iceblock. Target drops are invaluable (especially while he's casting) and removing the possibility of aggressive casting will force him on the defensive. It's wise to bind /cancelaura Iceblock to this ability.
III. Mirror images for the reason above. Don't use them for damage before you break that polymorph, use them reactively to throw off his momentum
IV. Ring of frost can be used to preemptively interrupt a cast, I find it most useful to use when he's dropped SForm in hopes it will catch him out of a heal. It's also a nifty ability in keeping him quiet while you're healing with evocation (Glyph of Evocation)
V. Blizzard gave you cooldowns for a reason, use them and use them wisely
Best of luck!
Lambs. You are exceptional at giving out advices! I will try your techniques! Thank You all for the advice.
Any time :] Whisper me in game if you have any questions
Priest (ALL OF THEM) will they to close range you to activate thier aoe fear.
Open an encounter with a poly and start spell stealing.
(( NOTE: Good priest will try to time your poly with Shadow word Death . SWD damages the priest slightly BUT cancels your poly.)) Keep an eye out for that.
Drop a line of frost (they will try to fear you, so they will cross it or run around), and break your poly with your top spells, trinkets, etc. Usually a the 4 second silence timed properly is more than enough to down them, so dont bother waiting for them to cast a holy spell ( unless they are actually noob enough to cast it)

Lifebound Alchemist Stone useless?
I created this to level my alch, but it's sitting in my bags as my green questing ilvl 305 +int trinket actually looks better. Would it actually be worthwhile for frost spec? I've been using fire for instances so far.
Lifebound Alchemist Stone

I'd throw a spell pen gem in it and use it for early season 9 until you get good pvp gear/trinkets. Thats a ton of stamina.
Yup it looks good for tanks and pvp, not so great for pve unfortunately. Blizz took the lazy way out this xpac and only made one version of the trinket instead of multiple versions like previous xpacs.

Fire Mage rotation?
So when i first rolled this toon and went fire in the late 20s the rotation was pretty easy after 4.0. Pyro-fireblast-scorch-til-something-procs/or fireblast comes off cooldown. i could easily keep 2nd spot in recount, but now after cata's release im seeing a drop in my Damage. Now im lucky to not be last in an instance. Any help?
Leveling Rotation: Pyro-fireblast-scorch-til-something-procs/or fireblast comes off cooldown.
Instance Rotation: Fireblast-Scorch til something procs/or fireblast comes off cooldown.

I suck at mage rotation. QQ.QQ Helpz meh.
I will tell you when you reach 85
Agree with Psyonic...worry about lvling first. I know I'm only lvl 69 myself but eh. I've just recently started in on NR dungeons (I random all day in a mad rush to lvl) and I consistantly lead or at the least run 2nd in DPS because at these lower lvls the runs go so fast and with a decent tank I don't have to worry about doing any cc or stealing agro so I can just sit back and aoe the bajebus outta everything. But being only lvl 69 my main focus is lvling, I'll worry about everything else when I ding 85. There are plenty of threads out there on fire rotation and surprise not everyone agrees on some of the finer pts such as should you spam fireball or frostfire bolt with the glyph should I weave in scorch or not etc. But again your focus should be level level level then worry about everything else.
Wait till you hit 85...you have alot of time to experiment on your own for now
I agree with those above, don't worry about "rotations" yet. Get a feel for the spells, what they do, how much aggro they draw, ect. Also play with "all" of your spells, i've met people who play mage that have no idea what "sheep" means because all they care about are l33t dps. Knowing what to do when with what is much better than knowing 1-1-2-1-1 or whatever.

Knowing what to do when with what is much better than knowing 1-1-2-1-1 or whatever.

just wondering about people's opinions about which gems are best for pvp and weather or not gemming to color is still worth while. and yes in s8 the best mages gemmed to color trixbunneh ect...

I just started my 2v2 team
I decided to give Arena a try and teamed up with a Frost DK. I am wondering if I should remain frost, or switch to either Fire or Arcane?
I assume Arcane would have good burst, and fire has great mobility. Thoughts?
Stay safe and stick with frost. cause the burst is still great, and the cc is all important.
Frost is your best bet as it has burst and better CC but you can win with fire and even arcane just takes more skill and knowledge.
Would anyone mind looking at my spec?

Need help - frost mage levelling spec
Hey all =)
I've finally decided to level up my mage and get him ready for Cataclysm.
Right now I'm Lvl36 and I have to say Frost is amazing in terms of control/cc and burst damage.
As the title suggests, I'm looking for professional magi here to help me choose the right talents for frost levelling.
Also, which glyphs should I use ?
Your inputs are greatly appreciated.

I need better food.
I mean, at 72 i have 14k mana(buffed) and Im making 4.2k mana(over 30sec) lollipops...
I thought this was supposed to be changed.
Can we get a suggestions forum please?
qq l2 level
You should be getting the new food really soon. Just wait til 80. Mana strudels are like, 64k hp and 40k mp. I use one and within a few seconds I'm fully regened XD
I remember when mage water was as good as the best water available from a vendor. Now we get second best, but its food too.
Gear got too good.

PvP question: silences
I'm new to mage PvP relatively; looking for advice on how to deal with DK/Spriest silences and counterspells that knock out my main tree specifically.
I play fire normally, it's difficult to cancel scorch casts, when i get hit with an 8 second silence I just don't know how to react, usually ice block and hope it doesnt happen again.
Thanks :>

should i go goblin?
so im had this mage seance vanilla wow and i relay don't wana get rid of her. but lets face it undead have like no good racials but pvp i was thinking on going goblin but idk thoughts on how goblin mages are doing?
I mean 1% haste isnt much but it still helps. Banker is great for a full bag. Rocket boots ability that lets you jump like blink, will change pvp strats for mages a lot. I feel frost mages becoming more popular with this. I would say yeah, go for it
then my second question is how good is the goblin starting area? whould i miss much race changing?
You should play the starting area but if you want to switch your mage do that and than just start a new goblin toon.... just a though
Just roll a new character as a goblin, there you won't miss anything.
Also Goblin's are very strong as a PvP race, but I feel other races are better for PvE. It does depend on spec to some degree, but I feel like having beserking and time warp in arcane for your burn cycle would be insane (or beserking/time warp/icy veins).
That being said, with ratings requirements for a 1% boost where they are at 85, 1% is going to be a pretty big deal.
I myself am going to wait a bit to see if they nerf goblins, then change to that, then again I'm more pvp oriented.
thanks :) i think i know what im going to do ill start a goblin mage and see if i like them then decide from there.
Be warned, rocket jumping up hills does not work well, but rocket booting down them....

A suggestion for [Conjure Refreshment]
Please change it so that it only creates one type of food from the moment you get it. Then change it so that one type of food restores a percent of your mana and health. Then change it so it has no minimum level requirement. It seems the change you made to the spell has caused significant problems from the moment you learn it.
Such problems are: Instance runs in which you are creating say the level 44 to 53 food [Conjured Mana Brownie] but your healer is only level 43. The food only returning 1/2 or even 1/3 of the conjuring mages health or mana pools.
It is quite possible you may have just gotten the amounts wrong as the level 64 food seems to return mana and health at the rate of the level 55 dropped food and water. While adjusting the numbers so they have amounts equal to the food and water 1 level above them may solve the second problem. The first problem would still exist.
That would be very nice.
Why not.

the biggest impact of this change, imo is when you're really well geared at max level, and a full 30 second drink doesn't fill up your mana pool.

@PvE Nerds
Please don't respond if you're just speculating.
Does the Glyphs of Icelance/Frostbolt factor their crit chance with Shatter AFTER talent, or before.
Meaning do I have a 15% extra crit on Shatter (18% base crit x3 = 54% crit + 5% x3 = 69%) or is it 54% + 5% extra?
I would presume the former, but knowing Blizzard's odd mechanics over the years...
It's hard to say. I doubt something like that would stack in that regard, and it'd be OP. I would like to presume the former too, but they scaled down the stat gains from items, and I'm sure they don't want the stat/rating scales to be ridiculously high like they were in Wrath.
I'm sure that it would be added on as it is a different type of buff, and not associated with the Talent buff Shatter normally would.
I'll sadly say no, but I can only hope it's right. But then again, if it WAS right, I'd be hearing all the other classes QQing about Mage's Insta-crits (they practically were back in Wrath).
It wouldn't be "OP" as much as you're thinking. Essentially if you have 20% crit, your Frostbolts/Icelances have 25% crit. That is multiplied by Shatter for 75%.
Anyone else?
Iirc Glyph of Icelance is 5% extra damage, not crit.
Edit: I believe the extra crit from the glyph is calculated before the extra crit from shatter, I say this because (unless I'm somehow horribly, horribly wrong) that's how it worked during wrath, with the ability to nova someone after you've cast, but before it lands, and get the added crit chance.
Even if that were the case, logically speaking a Glyph and a Talent are two completely different things, and as such would not stack. And I think of it as such as a Glyph involves the spell directly, regardless of the Shatter effect, it will increase by 5%, whether the target is Frozen or not.
You have to remember that you would have 60% Crit (20% base amplified by Shatter talent) regardless of any spell that you cast, and it's just you would have 65% Crit if you used the Ice Lance ability.
Oh that's right, I forgot. My question still stands for Frostbolt.
@ Lucitya
The funny thing is, you're right lol...
But then again, I suppose even if you were wrong, if we even applied the concept of it containing crit, it wouldn't multiply three-fold due to the difference of buffs. Plus, I personally wouldn't take something like that for granted unless it specifically stated in the glyph/spell ability.
See logically I would think the crit chance of the spell is initially calculated as the cast completes, and then as it lands any modifiers are added, like I added in earlier how you can ele nova after you've cast and get the benefit.
Of course my head explodes when I try to combine this logic with icelance and FoF...
So I was wrong about shatter applying if the target is frozen after the spell is cast (I was curious after so I tried it out, waiting for ele nova constantly is boring), however at the very least I could swear that the character check and the target check happened separately and in that order. But since I was wrong once already I could easily be wrong again.
Does a Spell cast receive Shatter benefit even after you cast it and the target breaks freeze and the such? I never thought it did, and only believed it worked upon the casting of the spell.
Again, I figured this way, it would calculate the 5% crit into the spell, regardless of shatter or not. If the target is not frozen, it'll be 5% increase. If the target isn't shattered, it'll still be just a 5% crit increase, as the effect still works arbitrary of the target being Frozen or not.
