DPS Research and Experimentation

[:1]I've just finished up doing a bit of research in comparing the new Arcane rotations to the most optimal fire rotation.



Here are the results and process:



Glyphs:

Arcane - Arcane Missiles + Arcane Blast + Mage Armor

Fire - Molten Shield + Fireball + Frostfire Bolt



Specs:

See my armory page ( might not be updated for a bit, if fire is the primary then it is updated )



Armor: iLevel Average of 333, Shoulder Enchant honored Therezane, +40 Int. To both rings, 50 Critical Strike Rating to Cloak, 50 Haste to Boots and Gloves, 95 Int 80 Stam Tailoring pants, Almost all gear reforged for Critical Rating.



Addons used: Skada Damage Meter



FIRE Molten Armor and Dalaran Intellect

Rotations: Scorch for Critical Mass, Living Bomb(Refresh Continuously) Frostfire Bolt Three Times for DoT, 3 Fireballs, 1 Frostfire Bolt to refresh DoT, Utilizing Hot Streak throughout. When 3 FFB, Ignite, Pyroblast and Flamestrike (Optional) DoTs are up use combustion. No Flame orb used.



Average DPS: 12,000



ARCANE Mage Armor and Dalaran Intellect

Rotations: Arcane Blast 2-3 times until Arcane Missiles is Available, Clear AB Debuff with Arcane Missiles. Repeat.



Average DPS: 8,600



This is not a made up study, I literally just conducted this using my Skada Damage meter. Each rotation was repeated for 30 seconds for averaging. Test was experimented on a level 85 training dummy in orgrimmar.



No CDs were used and trinket buffs applied on both sides.



Through this study I have concluded that Fire is the superior spec for single target bosses, based on my current statistics of gear (iLevel 333).



And of course fire is the king of AoE with Instant Flamestrikes, Blast Waves and Dragons Breath. So multiple target DPSing is still held by fire.


And before you say my Arcane rotation was wrong, remember that Mastery rating for arcane is a damage buff for how much mana you hold. Getting to 4 stacks is getting to a lower bit of mana, the rotation I used kept me at about 87-96% mana at all times.
Why wouldn't you use flame orb? Why wouldn't you use a burn phase in your arcane spec? Why would you only test for 30 min segments, when boss fights are 3-5 min?



Your 'study' lacks credibility.

sorry all you proved is the optimal fire rotation is better then a non optimal arcane rotation..... i get what you said about the mastery bonus but burn phase is a huge chunk of arcane's dps.



not saying fire isn't better dps but your test doesn't prove it to me....
