So I made a mage, and I'm completely new to WoW
I rly enjoy playing in dungeons. Anyways I haven't chosen arcane, frost, or fire yet because I feel I don't know enough from just reading the descriptions in their talent trees. Obviously one is not better than the other, but is one more effective in dungeons and general pve? Any input would be appreciated
From my past experiences and current Frost will help you a lot in PVE as well as a few dungeons. Arcane is generally useless. I also recommend Frost for some PVP. But yeah all in all Frost is a good way to go. Fire follows closely behind it but I just find it to be a pain because of long cast times and cooldowns. Stick with Frost for now throughout PVE, read up a bit, and educate yourself even more so you can pick between Frost or Fire so you are very comfortable. : )
arc and fire are pretty low. frost seems to be the better believe it or not! PVP and PVE
from my understanding of the descriptions in the talent tree
frost = freezes enemies in place and some blast attacks
fire = nuking (or at least thats what its called in guild wars)
arcane = scews with time and space (?)
I still like arcane, though I'm not 85 yet, so there is that. The "mana dancing" makes it kinda fun, without having a whole lot of keybinds to remember. AB till I'm down by about 10000 mana, pop mana gem, continue AB spam to 35%, evocate, then the fun part comes, trying to stay fairly mana neutral while waiting for mana gem and evocate to come off cooldown. Having the last arcane blast fire off, killing the boss while completely OOM and without mana gem or evocate off of cooldown is a great feeling, actually.
Arcane at low levels isn't fun though, at least in instances. It's a fairly slower cast compared to frostbolt, so things die before you get your 4 stacks of AB on the target and you don't do very good dps.
I can't speak to the merits of fire, having never really tried it out.
For questing, Frost without a doubt, at least until you get to Northrend. Midway through Northrend is when I went to Arcane and have been doing fine so far in Cataclysm with it as well.
Ok, so it's not like I choose one and I'm stuck with it forever
